Arthur Williams Phillips Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to students enrolled at universities in Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education who have academic promise and have proven need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time, incoming freshman student at a State System university.
  • First preference should be given to students whose home address of record is Butler, Clarion, Forest, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer or Venango counties. In the event that there are no qualified students from these counties, the scholarship may be awarded to any student who is a Pennsylvania resident.
  • Students must have a record of academic success and proven financial need based on university criteria.
  • These scholarships are to be awarded to students attending State System universities that do not have an endowed scholarship fund established by the Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • Maximum awards of $1,000 ($500 for the Fall 2018 semester and $500 for the Spring 2019 semester) will be made to selected students. Please note that the universities are required to provide a matching award of $1,000.
  • The number of available scholarships is limited. Scholarships are awarded annually from available earnings from the Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Scholarship Endowment Fund. There are eight (8) $1,000 scholarships available for the 2018-19 academic year.

There is no application for this scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship are selected by the appropriate scholarship committees of the State System universities. If you think you are an eligible candidate, please contact the financial aid office at your university.  The Foundation must be notified of Phillips scholarships recipients by June 22, 2018. Universities must provide the student's name, address, county of residence and email address.




AT&T STEM Award

 


Funded by AT&T, the purpose of this award is to improve retention and completion rates of students majoring in a STEM related program which will impact the computer technology, advanced manufacturing and energy industries.

Eligibility

  • Must be a resident of Pennsylvania.
  • Must be a full-time student at one of the 14 State System universities.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in a STEM related major with the intention of working in the computer technology, advanced manufacturing or energy related industries.
  • Must be a junior or senior who has earned  60 or more college credits with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have demonstrated financial need based on the need analysis from FAFSA.
Number of Awards and Amount Awarded
  • Twenty-five scholarships are available for the Fall 2018 semester.
  • The amount of each award is $1,000.
Student Requirements
  • Complete the AT&T STEM Award Application.
  • Include a copy of your transcript.
  • Prepare an essay on the following topic: How my STEM Degree will positively impact the computer technology, advanced manufacturing and/or energy industries.
  • The complete application packet must be submitted by June 9, 2018.
 
 



Barbara Greenlee's "I Believe in You Scholarship"

Funded by Barbara Greenlee, this scholarship provides tuition funding for incoming freshmen at State System universities who have graduated from The Nativity School and Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA. This support is intended to provide a "boost" to this special population of students who are academically qualified but may not have adequate funds to earn a university education.

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of The Nativity School and Bishop McDevitt High School.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student at a State System university.
  • Must have demonstrated financial need based on analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or equivalent grade percentage.
Number of Awards and Amount Awarded
  • Applicants may request up to $2,500 per semester.
  • Two scholarships in the amount of up to $2,500 will be awarded each semester.
  • Awardees are eligible to apply for continued scholarship funding in the amount of up to $2,500 per semester (up to $5,000 per year) for up to four years as long as they have the required 2.5 GPA and are in good academic and judicial standing at the university.

  • An official transcript must be submitted with the application.

Dr. Lou Bohl-Fabian Memorial Fund

Dr. Lou Bohl-Fabian started his career with PA's State System of Higher Education as the Director of Evaluation, Planning, Research and Assessment at Lock Haven University beginning in 1988. He became Director of System Research in 1996 and collected, analyzed and interpreted information and data on State System universities to support management decision making. He remained in that position until his death in 2007.

To commemorate his dedication to research, his love of the environment/outdoors and his belief in the importance of advanced degrees, family, friends and colleagues established the Dr. Lou Bohl-Fabian Memorial Fund.

Purpose

This fund will be used to provide “special funding” such as grants or stipends to graduate students at State System universities who are pursuing advanced degrees  in research, the environment/outdoors, political science or the arts –all areas of special interest to Dr. Bohl-Fabian.  Examples of funding include but are not limited to:  

  • Providing travel expenses for a student to present a paper 
  • Funding for a project
  • Funding special research
  • Sponsoring a special program
  • Attending conferences

Eligibility
Graduate students at State System universities who are involved in studies focused on research, the environment/outdoors, political science or the arts are eligible to apply. All applicants must have GPA of 3.5 or better. In addition, an official transcript must accompany the application.

Number of Awards
The number of awards will vary depending on available funds and dollar amount of the funded requests.

Application Requirements

The Foundation will work with staff and appropriate faculty at State System universities to make students aware of the funding opportunity. All applicants must complete an application ccompanied by an official transcript. All applications must be received by the Foundation at least 60 days prior to the date the funding is needed.




Fitz Dixon Memorial Scholarship

Founded by Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculty (APSCUF), the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, PA's  State System Foundation and Dixon family members, this scholarship honors the memory of the late F. Eugene “Fitz” Dixon, Jr. Mr. Dixon was a highly respected civic leader, sportsman, and a founding member of Pennsylvania State's System of Higher Education Board of Governors.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students who attend one of the 14 State System universities. Applicants for this scholarship must demonstrate academic excellence, voluntary service within the community at home and at their university, and financial need as determined by their FAFSA applications.

Amount Awarded

There are two $500 awards available for Fall 2018. This amount may vary in future years depending upon funds available from the endowment.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled at one of the 14 State System universities pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree.
  • Undergraduate student applicants must have passed 45 credits at a State System university with at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • Graduate student applicants must have passed at least nine (9) credits at a State System university with at least a 3.5 GPA.
  • Applicants must demonstrate volunteer services in the community or the university
  • Official transcripts must accompany all applications.
  • Applicants must show financial need based on standard need analysis from the FAFSA application.
Student Requirements
  • Complete the Fitz Dixon Memorial Scholarship Application.
  • Submit two (2) written references: One (1) reference must be from a State System university faculty member, not related to the applicant.
  • Submit evidence of community and university involvement using the form provided. Evidence must include, but is not limited to position responsibilities, hours worked, and quantification from an upper level supervisor.
  • Include an essay on the following topic:Volunteerism: The Cornerstone of Civic Responsibility.
  • Submit application, references, essay, academic transcripts and university/community service verification form by June 9, 2018.



Geisinger Scholarship for Rising Juniors and Seniors

The purpose of this scholarships is to provide funding for rising juniors and seniors who are majoring in a field that benefits the health care industry.  Applicants must meet the established scholarship eligibility requirements.   
 
Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a full-time junior or senior in good standing at one of the 14 State System universities. 
  • Must be pursuing a degree in a field that benefits the health care industry including, but not limited to: allied health, nursing, health science, biology, pre-medicine, pre-physician assistant, business, criminal justice, marketing, information technology, analytics or human resources. 
  • Must have earned 60 credits or more with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  

Selection Process 
Recipients of this scholarship will be selected by the Geisinger Scholarship for Rising Juniors and Seniors Committee which is comprised of representatives from the State System Foundation Scholarship Committee. 
 
Number of Awards and Amount
  • Ten scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded for the Fall 2018 semester to State System students who meet the eligibility requirements and are selected by the Geisinger Scholarship Committee.
Term of Award 
This is an annual award and, as such, shall remain commensurate with funding.   
 
Applicant Requirements
  • Complete the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education Foundation Scholarship Application.
  • Submit a transcript. 
  • Completed application must be submitted by June 9, 2018



Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Hospitality Scholarship

 
 

HE&R is providing five (5) state system students, who are pursuing a degree that benefits the hospitality industry, such as: hospitality, marketing, human resources, information technology or criminal justice, with a $1,000 scholarship. The students will receive $1,000 be used for tuition and fees for the fall 2018 semester. This one-time scholarship award is available to juniors and seniors who meet the eligibility requirements as well as the student requirements.

Eligibility

  • Be a full-time student at one of the 14 State System universities
  • Be a resident of Pennsylvania
  • Have a major in a hospitality, marketing, human resources, information technology or criminal justice
  • Earned and passed a minimum of 60 college credits
  • Show academic promise with a 3.0 GPA or better
  • Complete the application by the deadline date
Amount Awarded
The amount of the scholarship award will be $1,000 and will be applied to the tuition and fees for the fall 2018 semester.

Student Requirements
  • Complete the HE&R Hospitality Scholarship Application.
  • Submit an official university transcript
  • Submit a cover letter that explains:
    • How you learned about the scholarship
    • Your career goals / aspirations
    • How the scholarship money will benefit you
  • Complete application and cover letter must be submitted by June 16, 2018.



Highmark Healthcare Scholarship for Rising Juniors

 
 

This scholarship is generously funded by Highmark to help address the ever-growing need for trained healthcare professionals to meet the demands of the Commonwealth and beyond.

Eligibility
  • Must be a resident of Pennsylvania and enrolled as a full-time student at one of the 14 State System universities. 
  • Must be pursuing a degree in the healthcare profession such as:  informatics, computer science*, information technology*, allied health or a healthcare field such as, nursing, pre-physician assistant, pre-medicine, biology, health science, audiology, speech pathology, medical imagery, health science and physical therapy.
  • Must be a rising junior for the Fall 2018 semester who has earned 60 credits with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA. 

*Students majoring in IT or computer science may be eligible for a paid internship with Highmark and will be notified about the details of this additional opportunity.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • One hundred (100) scholarships will be awarded. 
  • This scholarship is a two-year award in the amount of $1,000 per year.
  • Recipients will receive $1,000 for the Fall 2018 semester and $1,000 for the Fall 2019 semester as long as eligibility requirements are maintained.

Student Requirements

  • Complete the Highmark Healthcare Scholarship for Rising Juniors application.
  • Provide two written references:  one from a professor in the applicant’s area of study and one personal reference.
  • Include a transcript
  • An essay on why you chose a career in the field of healthcare. 
  • The completed application must be submitted by June 23, 2018



M&T Bank Scholarship

 

M&T Bank is generously funding fifteen (15) $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded to students enrolled at the 14 Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education universities who demonstrate financial need based on standard need analysis from the FAFSA application and who reside in the specified central PA counties.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must reside in one of the following counties:  Cumberland, Dauphin or Franklin.   
  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at one of the 14 Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education universities.    
  • Applicant must be from a low-to-moderate income family and need financial assistance to attend college.
  • Applicant must show academic promise: incoming freshmen - top 25% of his/her high school graduating class; upper classmen - GPA of 3.0 or better.

Amount Awarded

For the 2018-19 academic year, fifteen $1,000 scholarships are available. Each selected student will receive a one-year total award of $1,000 ($500 for the fall 2018 semester and $500 for the spring 2019 semester). The student must remain a full-time student in good academic standing to receive the $500 spring 2019 semester award.

Student Requirements

  • Complete the M&T Bank Scholarship Application.
  • Submit an essay of approximately 500 words on the following topic:  "How have your past life experiences influenced your educational path?” 
  • Completed application and essay must submitted by June 9, 2018.



Momentum, Inc. Healthcare Scholarship

 
 

Funded by Momentum,Inc., management consultants in Camp Hill, PA, this scholarship is limited to full-time juniors and seniors at State System universities who are majoring in a health-care related field and meet the eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

  • Student must reside in Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry or York counties
  • Student must be a full-time junior or senior at a State System university
  • Student must be majoring in a healthcare related field including biology and healthcare informatics
  • Student have a GPA of 3.0 or better

Amount Awarded

  • One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the Fall 2018 semester.

PA State System Board of Governors Chair, Guido M. Pichini, Endowed Scholarship Fund

Generously funded by Guido M. Pichini, this endowed scholarship was founded to provide scholarships to students at the 14 State System universities.

Mr. Pichini served as chair of the PA State System of Higher Education Board of Governors from 2011 to 2016. The System's fourth Board chair in 28 years, Mr. Pichini is the first to have graduated from one of the 14 State System universities, Kutztown University. He is a second generation American, and education has always played an important role in his family.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be full-time students in good standing at one of the 14 State System universities.
  • Demonstrate financial need based on standard need analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  • GPA of at least 3.2.
  • Demonstrated leadership aspirations at the university or in the community.

Amount Awarded

  • There is one $800 scholarship available for the fall 2018 semester.

PinnacleHealth Health Care Industry Scholarship for Rising Juniors and Seniors


Funded by PinnacleHealth, this scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to rising juniors and seniors who are pursuing a degree in a field to benefit the health care industry.

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time junior or senior at one of the 14 State System universities.
  • Must have graduated from a high school located within 20 miles of Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital at 111 South Front Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in a field that benefits the health care industry including, but not limited to: allied health, nursing, health science, biology, pre-medicine, pre-physician assistant, marketing, information technology or human resources.
  • Must have earned 60 credits or more with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • Five scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded for the Fall 2018 semester.

Applicant Requirements

  • Complete the PinnacleHealth Health Care Industry Scholarship for Rising Juniors and Seniors Application.
  • Submit a transcript.
  • The completed application and copy of transcript must be postmarked by June 9, 2018.



PPL Community Scholarship Award



PPL Community Scholarship Award program will serve student residents of PPL's 29 county service area. The goal of the PPL Community Scholarship Program is to provide bridge /emergency financial aid to needy students from PPL's service area in order to 1) address financial need), 2) support student retention and degree completion and 3) enhance workforce readiness in energy related majors.

Eligibility

  • Must be full-time student who has earned 60 or more credits.
  • Must reside in one of the following PA counties (PPL's service area): Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Clinton, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lackawanns, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montgomery, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland, Perry, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder, Susquehanna, Union, Wayne, Wyoming and York.
  • Must show academic promise - GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must have demonstrated financial need.
  • Must be majoring in energy and related fields such as STEM and Business Management.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • Funding is “last dollar”, i.e. the amount to close the gap between total costs and the student’s available funds and will not exceed $1,000.  Need must be verified univeristy financial aid officers. 
  • A total of $50,000 is available for the 2018-19 academic year. 

Student Requirements

  • Complete the PPL Community Scholarship Award Application.
  • Submit a copy of your transcript.
  • Completed application and transcript must be postmarked by June 9, 2018.



PSECU Credit Union Industry Scholarship for Rising Juniors and Seniors

 
 

Funded by PSECU the purpose of this scholarship is to promote persistence and completion for students majoring in a program which impacts the credit union industry.
 

Eligibility
  • Must be a full-time student at one of the 14 State System universities with a major in finance, business, marketing, human resources, information technology or crimimal justice.
  • Must be a rising junior or senior and completed 60 credits or more at time of application.
  • Must be a resident of Pennsylvania.
  • Must show academic promise with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • Twenty scholarships are available for the Fall 2018 semester.
  • The amount of the award is $1,000.

Applicant Requirements

  • Complete the PSECU Credit Union Industry Scholarship for Rising Juniors and Seniors Application.
  • Include a transcript with your application.
  • Include a 200-word essay on the following topic: Why Financial Literacy is Important for Colllege Students.
  • The  complete application packed must be submitted by June 16, 2018. 



PSECU International Education Scholarship

 
 

The Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU) started this scholarship to provide funding for State System students to participate in international educational experiences to help them explore cultures, life experiences and world views different from their own.

Eligibility

Eligible candidate must meet the following criteria at their home institution at time of study abroad departure: 

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at a State System university
  • Must be a Pell Grant or PHEAA qualified
  • Must be a resident of Pennsylvania
  • Must be participating in an institutionally approved overseas program
  • Must be in good academic and judicial standing
  • Preference will be given to students who have no overseas experience

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • There are fifteen scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each available for the 2018-19 academic year. 
  • These are one-time scholarships and, as such, shall remain commensurate with funding. 

Student Requirements

  • Applicants must complete the PSECU International Education Scholarship Application
  • Submit one written academic reference from a university faculty member
  • Submit an official university transcript.   
  • Prepare a personal statement on the following points:
    • Why did you choose this program? 
    • What do you hope to gain?
    • Describe any previous international experience(s).
    • If awarded, how would the money support your goals
    • Address how you would share your overseas educational experiences with other State System students or the community of Pennsylvania upon your return to campus.
  • Application, reference, transcript and personal statement must be submitted by June 16, 2018.



PSECU Scholarship for CCP Students Transferring to Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education @ Center City

 
 

Funded by the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), the purpose of this scholarship is to provide funding for students who transfer from the Community College of Philadelphia (after earning an AA or AS Degree) into Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education @ Center City to earn his/her first baccalaureate degree.

Eligibility

  • Must have earned an AA or AS degree from the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP)
  • Must be a CCP transfer student in good standing at Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education @ Center City pursuing first-time baccalaureate degree
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have demonstrated financial need.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • Ten (10) scholarships are available for the Fall 2018 semester
  • The amount of each award is $500

Applicant Requirements

  • Complete the application for the PSECU Scholarship for CCP Students Transferring to Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education @ Center City.
  • Include a transcript with your application.
  • Prepare an essay on the following topic: How this scholarship will make a difference in my academic pursuits.
  • The completed application, transcript and essay must be postmarked by June 16, 2018.



PSECU Scholarship for Preparing State System Students for Lives of Achievement and Civic Engagement

 
 

Funded by the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), the purpose of this scholarship is to provide funding to offset the cost of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (State System) students participating in internship programs offered by The Washington Center in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility

Full-time students at State System universities who are accepted into one of The Washington Center's internship programs.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • Twenty (20) $1,000 scholarships are available to State System students participating in the 2018 summer internship program.
  • Five (5) $1,000 scholarships are available for the fall 2018 internship program.
  • Five (5) $1,000 scholarships are available for the spring 2019 internship program.

Selection Procedure

There is no application process for these scholarships. Recipients will be selected by the State System Foundation's Scholarship Committee on recommendation of The Washington Center. Students selected to receive scholarships will be notified by The Washington Center




PSECU Transfer Student Scholarship

 
 

Funded for the fifth year by a generous gift from Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union, this scholarship recognizes and rewards transfer students who have become an integral and important component of the student population at State System universities.

Eligibility

  • Student must be a PA resident
  • Must be a PA community college transfer student who has earned an associate's degree
  • Must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student earning his/her first baccalaureate degree from a State System university
  • Must demonstrate financial need based on standard need analysis as determined by the FAFSA application

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

The amount of the transfer student scholarship is $850 for the fall 2018 semester. There is one scholarship available to each State System university.

Selection Procedure

Transfer counselors and their appropriate colleagues/committees at each university are asked to nominate one transfer student who meets the eligibility requirements. A nomination form should be completed by individual making the nomination and returned to the PA State System Foundation at the address listed on the form or by email to eshowers@thepafoundation.org . The deadline for nomination forms is June 15, 2018. Each university will receive notification of the approval of its candidate and will be responsible for notifying the student of the scholarship award.




State System Scholarship for Human Resources

This scholarship is designed to promote persistence and completion for students majoring in a field that prepares them to pursue a career in the human resources industry. 
 
Eligibility Requirements 
  • Must be a full-time student at one of the 14 State System universities with a major in human resources, business administration or a related field. 
  • Must be a rising junior or senior and completed 60 credits or more at time of application. 
  • Must be a resident of Pennsylvania.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by FAFSA. 
 
Number of Awards and Amount 
  • Three scholarships are available for the Fall 2018 semester. 
  • The amount of each award is $1,000. 
 
Applicant Requirements 
  • Complete the State System Scholarship for Human Resources Application.   
  • Include a transcript with your application. 
  • Include an essay on the following topic: Why Human Resources Management is Important for an Organization’s Success. 
  • The application packet must be submitted by June 9, 2018.   



Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarship for Women of Tomorrow (WOT) in Philadelphia

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide tuition funding for high school graduates of the WOT in Philadelphia program. This support, funded by Stephen and Sandy Sheller, is intended to provide access to a university education for this special population of students who are academically qualified but may not be able to pursue a post-secondary degree without the financial benefit of this scholarship award.

Eligibility

  • Graduate of the WOT in Philadelphia program
  • Enrolled as a full-time student for fall 2018 at one of the 14 State System universities
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrated financial need based on analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • A total of ten thousand dollars will be awarded to successful applicants for the 2018 fall semester. Applicants should indicate the amount of funds they are requesting. Requests from $500-$2,000 per applicant for fall 2018 will be considered.

  • Complete the Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarship for Women of Tomorrow in Philadelphia Application.
  • Include an essay on the following: Why are you a good candidate to receive this award?
  • Submit an official high school transcript with the application packet.

Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarships

Funded by the Sheller Family Foundation, Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarships are available to students at PA’s State System universities who are pursuing degrees leading to careers in law, social services or art therapy. 
 
Mr. Sheller is the founding partner of Sheller, P.C., one of the leading plaintiff’s personal injury, class action and whistleblower/qui tam law firms in the United States.  Mrs. Sheller is an art and family therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. 
 
Mr. and Mrs. Sheller are widely recognized and honored for their philanthropy and for their commitment to improve the lives of families and individuals.    
 
Eligibility
 
  • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at one of the 14 Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (State System) universities pursuing an undergraduate degree leading to a career in law, social services or art therapy. 
  • Applicants must have passed 60 credits at a State System university with at least a 3.25 GPA. 
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need based on analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.   
 
Number of Awards and Amount Awarded
 
Five $1,000 scholarships are available for 2018 fall semester.

  • Submit two (2) written references: one from a professor in the applicant’s area of study and one personal reference.

Supporting Student Success: A Scholarship to Improve Persistence and Degree Completion

Purpose
 
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide students enrolled in a State System university with bridge/emergency financial aid in order to 1) support student success, 2) improve student persistence and degree completion and 3) enhance workforce development in Pennsylvania. Scholarship awards will not exceed $1000 and are limited to the amount of funding needed to close the gap between the student’s available resources, confirmed by university financial aid officers, and the total annual costs of tuition, fees and room & board.  First preference will be given to low-income and under-represented students.
 
 
Eligibility Requirements 
  • Enrolled as a full-time student for fall 2018 at one of the 14 State System universities
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree
  • Resident of Pennsylvania (determined by permanent or home address)
  • In good academic standing with the university 
  • One thousand dollars (or less) of demonstrated financial need based on analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with confirmation from university financial aid officers 
Number of Awards and Amount Awarded 
  • Thirty scholarships will be awarded for the Fall 2018 semester. 
  • The amount of each award is $1,000 or less.

  • Include a brief essay of approximately 500 words on the following:

The Quido and Anna Pichini Merit Scholarship

This scholarship was founded by Guido and Susan Pichini in memory of Mr. Pichini's parents – Quido and Anna Pichini. Mr. Pichini served as chair of the PA State System of Higher Education Board of Governors from 2011 to 2016.

  • Applicant must be a full-time student at a State System university or an incoming freshman, enrolled as a full time student. 
  • Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5 or better.
  • Applicant must participate in voluntary service at his/her university, high school or community. 

Special Terms and Conditions

  • First preference is given to a student who resides in Berks County who is also of either Italian or Polish descent.
  • Otherwise a student who resides that PA and meets the academic and volunteer services eligibility requirements. 

Amount Awarded

There is one $1,000 scholarship available for the 2018-19 academic year.

Student Requirements

  • Complete The Quido and Anna Pichini Merit Scholarship Application.
  • Provide two written references.  One must be from a faculty member or teacher not related to the applicant.
  • Complete the voluntary services verification form (signature of an organizational official is required). 
  • Provide high school or university transcript. 
  • Submit an essay of 500 or fewer words to describe your thoughts on volunteerism and the following quote:  “Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
  • The completed application package must be submitted by June 16,  2018.



Wayne G. Failor Scholarship Fund

Funded by Wayne G. Failor, this scholarship provides funding to help cover the cost of a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education student participating in the summer internship program offered by The Washington Center in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Shippensburg University, Mr. Failor served as Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration for the PA State System of Higher Education from 1983 to his retirement in 1997. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Full-time student at Shippensburg University who is accepted into The Washington Center’s 2018 summer internship program. 

Student Requirements

  • There is no application for this scholarship. The recipient will be selected by the State System Foundation’s Scholarship Committee on recommendation of The Washington Center. The student selected to receive this award will be notified by The Washington Center. 

Number of Awards and Amount

  • One (1) $1,000 scholarship is available for the 2018 summer internship program. This is an annual award and, as such, shall remain commensurate with funding.



Wells Fargo Endowed Scholarship for Academic Excellence

In its ongoing efforts to support the communities where it lives and works, Wells Fargo founded the Wells Fargo Endowed Scholarship for Academic Excellence to provide financial assistance to incoming freshmen at State System universities who have achieved academic excellence in high school. This scholarship is a full-year, one-time award.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must reside in one of the following PA counties:  Allegheny, Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike and York.
  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at a State System university.
  • Applicant must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. 
  • Applicant must have demonstrated academic excellence in high school – top 25% of graduating class and a GPA of 3.2 or higher. 

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • The number of scholarships available each year will be determined by the PA State System Foundation’s Board of Directors in accordance with the PA State System Foundation endowment spending policy.  There are fourteen (14) $1,000 scholarships available for the 2018-19 academic year.  Students will be awarded $500 for the 2018 fall semester and $500 for the 2019 spring semester as long as eligibility requirements are met.

  • Students must complete a Wells Fargo Endowed Scholarship for Academic Excellence Application.
  • Include a transcript.
  • This application and transcript must be submitted by May 26,  2018.



William D. Greenlee Scholarship

The William D. Greenlee Scholarship was founded by Greenlee Partners to honor William (Bill) Greenlee, founder of the firm. Mr. Greenlee had more than 45 years experience in government, public relations and journalism. Early in his career he worked as a print, radio and TV reporter which led to his involvement in politics and government.

In 1980 he founded Greenlee Associates, a prominent lobbying and business strategies firm with offices in Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. In 2000, the firm’s name was changed to Greenlee Partners.

Among his numerous accomplishments throughout his vast and elaborate career, Mr. Greenlee’s was most proud of his service to the community through a number of local charities including serving as the Chair of the Board of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Foundation. The William D. Greenlee Scholarship is a fitting tribute to a gentleman who gave generously of himself to help others.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at one of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities majoring in political science, journalism or communications.
  • Applicant must reside in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Northumberland, Perry or York counties.
  • Applicants must have earned 60 credits or more with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Demonstrated financial need based on standard need analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid may be given preference. 

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

  • For 2018-19 academic year, two (2) $2,500 scholarships are available. Scholarships recipients will be awarded $1,250 per semester providing they are full-time students and maintain the required 3.0 GPA. These scholarships are one-time awards and recipients are eligible to receive funding for one year only.

  • Submit two written references:  one reference from a professor in the applicant’s area of study and one personal reference from an individual not related to the applicant. 
  • Include an essay on the following quote:  “Knowing what's right doesn't mean much unless you do what's right.”  (Theodore Roosevelt)
  • A transcript must be submitted with the application.
  • Complete application packet - application, reference letters, essay and transcript must be submitted by June 9, 2018.
